Eight checks before any site goes live
"Secure" is easy to say. This is what we mean by it, and the free tool you can use to check each one yourself, without taking our word for it.
- Encrypted, always. HTTPS on every page, HSTS turned on, old protocols switched off. Check it: SSL Labs server test. Aim for an A.
- Hardened browser rules. A Content Security Policy, plus X-Content-Type-Options, Referrer-Policy and Permissions-Policy headers. Framing blocked. No server version leaks. Check it: Mozilla Observatory or securityheaders.com.
- Multi-factor on every admin login. Your domain registrar, hosting, DNS, website admin and Google Business Profile all use multi-factor sign-in. Check it: The handover checklist, signed off line by line.
- You own every account. The domain is registered in your details. Hosting and code are in your name. We are a user you can remove at any time. Check it: Your domain's registrant record and your hosting account's user list.
- Patched and backed up. Static sites have no plugins to patch. WordPress sites get tested updates, daily off-site backups and a plugin vulnerability watch on WordPress Care, and restores are tested. Check it: Your monthly report shows the last patch and the last restore test.
- Privacy-first forms. Only the fields we need, a collection notice beside every form, and spam protection without third-party trackers. Check it: Read the form and the privacy page. Check the page loads no trackers.
- Fast on a phone. Built to Core Web Vitals "good" thresholds and a Lighthouse score of 95 or more on mobile at handover. Check it: PageSpeed Insights, mobile tab.
- Accessible and findable. WCAG 2.2 AA checks: keyboard use, visible focus, contrast, 24px targets, labels. Titles, sitemap, structured data and a robots file that lets search engines in. Check it: The WAVE or axe browser extension, and Google Search Console.
How this fits with the security work
Our assessments never come with a quote for the fixes
If IN-SEC assesses your business, we will never quote for fixing what that assessment finds, including your website and email, and we will not build or rebuild your website for 12 months after the assessment. That is what keeps the assessment honest.
If you came to us for a website in the first place, it is a normal, openly priced service. The free website check works the same way: it is free because IN-SEC builds and looks after websites. If it finds problems, we tell you what they are and what we would charge to fix them. Take the list to anyone you like.
